Find out why AI search can't see a website. Then fix it.
CiteReady checks whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI can reach, understand and quote a site, and gives you the exact code to fix every problem. Built for agencies that need to show clients proof of work.
Checks robots.txt, firewall behaviour, raw HTML, schema, headings, freshness and trust pages. Training bots are reported, never penalised.
What does the AI search audit check?
CiteReady runs 18 rule-based checks on the live site in three groups. Every failed check comes with a fix generated from the site's own data: a corrected robots.txt, ready-to-paste JSON-LD with the real name and logo, or the exact line to remove.
Can AI reach it? 40 pts
- AI search bots allowed in robots.txt
- Live firewall and CDN test with AI-bot user agents
- Content readable without JavaScript
- No noindex or nosnippet
- Sitemap exists and is listed
- HTTPS and a clean redirect chain
Can AI understand it? 35 pts
- Organization and WebSite schema
- sameAs links to social profiles
- Page-type schema: Product, Article, FAQ, LocalBusiness
- Title, description, headings, lang, canonical
- Open Graph tags
Will AI quote it? 25 pts
- Answer-first structure: question headings, lists, tables
- Enough real text, not a thin page
- Visible dates and dateModified
- About, Contact and author info
Why don't AI engines cite some websites?
AI answer engines now decide which businesses get recommended. Most invisible sites fail for reasons that are easy to fix but impossible for the owner to see:
The site blocks AI crawlers without anyone knowing
A firewall, a CDN "block AI bots" toggle or an old robots.txt rule can stop OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot or Claude-SearchBot. We test robots.txt and the live response.
The page is empty without JavaScript
Many AI crawlers read raw HTML only. A client-side React or app-shell site can look blank to them. We show exactly what the bot sees.
The site doesn't say who the business is
Without Organization schema, sameAs links and clear titles, a model can't connect the website to the brand it's asked about.
The content isn't quotable
No direct answers, lists, tables or dates. Structured, answer-first, dated pages are the ones AI engines lift and cite.
How is CiteReady different from AI visibility trackers?
Most AI visibility tools monitor: they tell you a brand is missing from AI answers, not what to change. CiteReady is fix-first.
| What you need | Typical monitoring tool | CiteReady |
|---|---|---|
| Know what's broken on the site | Sometimes, as a list of issues | Yes, 18 checks with evidence for every point |
| Copy-paste fixes | Rarely | Yes, generated from the site's own data |
| White-label client reports | Usually $189–$385/month tiers | From $29/month, or $9 for one report |
| Proof the fix worked | Trend charts of AI mentions | Weekly re-audits with before-and-after history |
| Transparent scoring | Often a black-box number | Every point links to the check that produced it |

Frequently asked questions
What is an AI search audit?
An AI search audit checks whether AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews can reach a website, understand who the business is, and quote its content. CiteReady runs 18 rule-based checks on the live site and gives a 0–100 score with a copy-paste fix for every problem.
Why can't ChatGPT see my website?
The most common reasons are a robots.txt rule or firewall that blocks OAI-SearchBot or ChatGPT-User, content that only appears after JavaScript runs, a noindex tag, or missing schema that explains who the business is.
Should I block GPTBot?
That's a business choice. GPTBot collects data to train OpenAI models. Blocking it does not remove a site from ChatGPT search answers, which use OAI-SearchBot and ChatGPT-User. CiteReady reports training bots but never lowers your score for blocking them.
How is the score calculated?
The score is the sum of 16 weighted checks in three groups: Can AI reach it (40 points), Can AI understand it (35 points) and Will AI quote it (25 points). Every point links to the evidence that produced it.
Can I put my agency's logo on the report?
Yes. White-label PDF reports with your logo, colours and agency name are included from the first paid plan ($29/month) or as a $9 single report.
Does llms.txt help AI search rankings?
No major AI search engine has confirmed using llms.txt yet, so CiteReady reports it as low impact and gives it zero points. We still generate a draft because it's cheap to add.
