What is llms.txt?
llms.txt is a proposed standard: a Markdown file at the root of a website (/llms.txt) that summarises the site and links to its most useful pages for AI tools. It starts with an H1 title, a one-line summary in a blockquote, then H2 sections that list links.
Does llms.txt improve AI search visibility?
Probably not yet. No major AI search engine has confirmed using llms.txt, so CiteReady's audit reports it as low impact and gives it zero points. It's cheap to add and doesn't hurt. Fixing crawler access, JavaScript rendering and schema matters far more.
